Cyclops Is Terrific Because of Emma
At least according to Matt Fraction, one of the current writers of Uncanny X-Men, that is. MARVEL.com interviewed Matt Fraction about Uncanny X-Men 500. Sadly, the interview seemed more like a pathetic excuse for 500’s terrible writing. Anyhow, Emma is mentioned in which Fraction states Cyclops is fun to write “because of his relationship with Emma.”
This could be a good thing in which you might agree with Fraction; or it could be a bad thing if you’ve found Cyclops interesting long before Emma came around. It is true Emma tends to make characters more interesting when she’s around them (it’s always fun to see how characters handle her snarky behavior), but I’ve always loved Cyclops. And this is totally no hard feelings towards Emma at all! Read more for the interview’s snippet.
Marvel.com: One of the keystones of Cyclops’ personality over the years has been that he’s a great adventuresome leader but he’s also wracked with self doubt. He shed a lot of that during “Messiah Complex,” but it’s very hard to shake those character traits for good.

Matt Fraction: Sure. You’re never going to forget the first guy to beat your ass. It’s like how you’re never going to be able to whoop your own dad. Scott is a terrific character to write right now because of who he is and where he’s at, because of his relationship with Emma and everything. He’s a lot of fun, and it was cool to take that new sense of confidence and smash it against Magneto in his classic mold and watch Scott loose it a little bit.
