As we’ve previously read, Emma Frost will be a major player in San Francisco X-Men. A fan asked if readers will be seeing obscure characters within the pages of upcoming X-Men comics. Joe Quesada replied that it’s the X-Men and we’ll be seeing everyone.

Hey Joe,
We’ve heard Dazzler is going to be a big part of the new UNCANNY X-MEN stories, and we’ve seen Bianchi sketches of her on ComicBookResources.com. Awesome to have her back, but are there any other obscure/inactive X-Men returning to the fold soon you can hint at? And I mean card-carrying X-Men, not members of the auxiliary teams like the New Mutants or GenX.

JQ: Tony, you’re going to have to change the way you think about usual X-Men comics when you think about UNCANNY. This is a whole new ball game. There’s no team roster. It’s about the X-Men.

All of them.

Some will come and go, but all the X-Men are game to show up there. It all centers around Cyclops, but stories focus on all kinds of different characters. Colossus is a big part of an arc, Emma’s a big part of an arc, Karma shows up, Storm is around, Nightcrawler’s a big part…But don’t worry, Maggot isn’t going to show up. Yet.

    I’ll be curious to see how this works. I’m not 100% sure that this rotating non-roster will be a good idea.

    I imagine that it’ll be mostly hits with a few misses. You’ll have some good stories but then there will be an arc with a character that you loathe which will take you out of it for a bit.

    I do like the idea now that i think on it some more. It’ll be a good way to make the mutants of Marvel feel more like a species than simply people with super powers.

    Time, as always, will tell.

    If I understand correctly, Uncanny will always have the core three (Scott, Ems and Logan)in every arc, with their teammates changing whenever the need arises. So good news if you’re a fan of the three. Bad if you’re not.

    I think the only thing that is sure is that Cyclops will be in every arc. Possibly also Wolverine of course :)

    I’m not sure i’d want “the big three” to be in every arc.

    If you’ve always got Cyclops then no one else will really get to show any leadership chops.

    If you’ve always got Emma no one else gets to be haughty and sexy in a domme sort of way.

    And no one will ever be able to out badass Wolverine so i can’t see him in every arc.

    Hopefully, the core three gets to play a more administrative role, like Charles used to have – - only stepping in whenever their troops are five minutes away from getting killed by someone who starts monologuing.

    I want Julian back.
