Matt Fraction - CBR’s X-Position Matt Fraction - CBR’s X-Position

FINALLY, someone asked if Emma will eventually be written as an individual character in Uncanny X-Men, rather than Cyclops’ “diamond accessory.”

I must say I agree with the questioner. Matt Fraction’s answer seems rather defensive and tells us to keep reading (even though, in my opinion, his characterization of Emma sucks). By the way, Fraction, the questioner referred to “domestication” as a boring “household servant.” I don’t think he was talking about an animal.

Gosh, the questioner was asking why Emma is currently being written as an accessory instead of an individual character - he wasn’t say she was one, because she isn’t but that is how she is being written as of now. *headdesk*

PS - Emma appears in the semi-preview pages of Uncanny X-Men #502. No dialogue though…

2) I’ve been a big Emma Frost fan ever since her first stories in “Generation X” but I’m beginning to see that her relationship with Cyclops — though interesting — has domesticated her to a point and taken her from the icy headmistress to the psychic cheerleader of Team Summers. This is not a gripe as much as it is an observation. I’m curious about what, if anything, is going to be done to showcase Emma as less of a diamond accessory and more of a dynamic individual in the near future?

I bristle a bit at your phrasing “domesticated her,” as you’re speaking about a woman (a fictional one, but still) and not a, y’know, wild horse or something. And I reject your premise that Emma in love means she’s little more than the cheerleader for Team Summers, let alone an accessory. But I love writing Emma for lots of reasons, her complex morality being, I think, my favorite aspect of who she is and why she does what she does. That said? Keep reading.

To be fair, for most of the time Emma and Scott have been together Scott has been somewhat in Emma’s shadow. Not so much in Astonishing, but it was quite noticeable in the other X-titles.

Turnabout is fair play so I don’t really have a problem with the current depiction of Emma, and a little variation now and then does not hurt, just as long as it does not go on for too long.

I’m with NB. Emma shouldn’t have her guard up 24/7, especially not around Scott. I’ll wait and see how she deals with the Red Queen before I make my judgment. If she absolutely kicks ass, then hurrah. If she takes a step back so her man could fight for her, then boo.

I have to say that, I really don’t have a problem with the Emma thing because it seems like she loves Scott unconditionally these days and everyone knows what that does to a person.

But Emma Frosts biggest asset as White Queen and a business women was that people underestimated her even Sebastian Shaw. Being the manipulative mastermind she is does not mean she has to be the one actively in control of every situation, letting Scott think he’s in control much like letting Shaw think he was in control is how she operates and the Illuminaughty is proof that she is not sitting idly by like any typical Marvel Universe Housewife.

As for Fractions stuff I like it, and I’ll only be able to judge it properly after 2 arcs so maybe after Uncanny X-Men #507 comes out.

As for the Dodson thing, all these indirect Adrienne references are starting to creep me out. First Astonishing X-Men #25 now Uncanny. I don’t think she’ll show up in Uncanny though I have a feeling Ellis wants to use her.

i agree with the people. i do believe emma should have her own role and not just one of cyclops assistants or tramps. i also seem to see that cyclops keeps using her for her telepathy and its really getting on my nerve, hes the most boring character, and i wish that everywhere that emma goes scott doesnt always have to be there, but if he wasnt there than i dont think emma would still be in the x men

@Aimee - Someone posing as me?! If you’re going to comment, please use your real name! …Unless if Aimee is actually your name, then cool.

@Exoduscloak - Adrienne references? How did I miss this? Gosh, I hope Marvel keeps her dead. Good riddance.

@aimeeish - I dont know, about that, it would be pretty interesting if Adrienne came back, and fought emma even if shes weak as hell, and my god all these greg land drawings of emma look exactly like madonna, its pretty strange, maybe hes using her to trace emma

First off this is my first post on this site (after observing it from the very start) and I say a big well done to Aimee! Hurrah! Fellow Frost fans!

Anyway. I don’t want Adrienne back not at all. However. It would be very cool to see Cordelia again. Perhaps with mastery of her powers? It would be a very good showdown between the two.

Emma is being dumbed down a bit, acting like a lovesick puppy in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong it is GREAT to see Scott like this. He has always intrested me and it is good to see this side of his character. BUT, Emma shouldn’t be depicted like this, it is just not her character. And one more thing, when was the last time we seen Emma in diamond form?
