Secret Invasion #8 Director’s Commentary
And, yet another interview. Wizarduniverse.com interviewed Brian Bendis as he provided commentary for Secret Invasion #8. Bendis tells Emma fans to not worry.
As you mentioned, we see quite the conglomerate gathered here. Dr. Doom. There’s Emma. There’s Namor. There’s a female Loki, who I guess we’ll just call Loki.
BENDIS: I call her, “Hottie Loki.” She’s the goddess of hot.
Agreed.
BENDIS: Just for the record, Kevin shuddered when I said that. He went, “haa-aa-aa!” You’re probably going to edit that out of the broadcast but that happened.
You’ll get right into it [in the special] and what’s interesting now is you have these two secret groups and the only person who knows that both of them exist is Namor. That there’s a mirror. He’s on both of these little secret societies and that I thought would be the most interesting aspect of the two teams, but what’s more interesting, it seems, is Emma. Originally, it was going to be Magneto in that chair but continuity would have it where he just wasn’t available and we all got together and Fraction was cool enough to let Emma get in there and, boy oh boy, that just makes her the most interesting person in that room to me. [The Dark Reign] special is actually written from her point of view mostly and I’m looking forward to it because that is a character that’s kind of straddled both lines for a long time and now a hard decision is being made for her.
I can hear the sharpening of pitchforks. The fans are going to be like, “Emma? What?? Get him!”
BENDIS: Yes, I believe Joss Whedon will be leading that pitchfork gang of villagers pillaging me. Don’t worry too much, Emma fans. What you’re going to get is a lot of cool Emma stuff in both X-Men and in this Cabal stuff so that’s what you have to look forward to.
