Fraction seems to have a large-scale story at work here, one that began back in issue #500 and looks to be anything but nearing the finish, yet he’s been able to make each issue a satisfying narrative chunk, and that’s something that many X-writers have failed to do in the past. He’s pacing it like a serialized monthly comic, but the tendrils of the plot seem to reach much farther than that.

Bottom line: I’m having fun reading this comic every month, and though I don’t know much about some of the characters and I don’t know what’s going to happen next, I’m eager to find out, even if Greg Land’s art isn’t my thing. Read More

In true Fraction form, nothing is as simple as an “extended fight scene,” so even though issue #510 is basically the Sisterhood’s invasion of the X-Men’s new home, it’s more an opportunity for Fraction to play with the different toys in his toybox. As always, Emma Frost’s characterization shines, and Pixie gets some great moments this issue in a proactive leader role. The scale of the team is emphasized, and there’s a real sense that this is how a crisis at the X-Men headquarters might really play out: whoever’s around lends a hand. It’s a good feel for the franchise.
If you can get past the whole art debacle, there’s a fantastic issue of Uncanny X-Men underneath. I doubt the days of dial-a-storyline are behind us, but for now I’m enjoying Matt Fraction’s calmer approach to storytelling this issue. Read More

This is a fairly forgettable issue that virtually ignores the only part of the book that I was still interested in — the attempts of Beast and his team of scientists to research the original catalyst for mutation — in favour of a bland fight sequence that doesn’t carry any emotional weight for me due to my lack of history with the characters involved. I’m hoping that Fraction wraps up this particular storyline soon, because it’s starting to turn me off an otherwise enjoyable run on the book. Read More

Emmafrostfiles.com Review

I’ll be honest: this issue is one hot tranny mess. I had a ball making fun of the disaster that was this issue. But in all seriousness, this issue was an absolute joke and I can see why people are referring to Uncanny as fan fiction. Fraction, who has been praised as writing complex characters, does nothing but write the characters by their powers and what can be learned about them in three sentences. In Summary: Yet again, Land is no good for this book, and the people are divided on whether or not this book is likeable.

  1. Mmm, this comic is not so bad, It could be better, but… I have to say that the most enjoyable thing about this issue (at least for me), was the fight between Emma and Lady Mastermind, I loved it ^_^

Land really shouldn’t be working on Marvel books other then Swim Suit Issues, and that’s being generous. All his art looks like he should be making comics for either FHM, Maxim, or Hustler.
In my humble opinion, best X-men artist right now are easily Joe MAD, Humberto Ramos, and Chris Bachalo.
Though it’s been a while since I’ve seen Joe MAD work on X-Men.

Lol, his work is not constant, sometimes he draws beautiful women, but other times they look horrible, I mean HORRIBLE!.
Agree Humberto Ramos and Chris Bachalo are on my top of best X-Men artist. I like Terry Dodson and Mike Choi too.

This issue sucked…and I don’t know why all these professional reviewers are giving the book around 3-4 stars. I would give this book 1 star. Ugh. At least I’ve noticed ComicsBulletin has some sort of sanity going for them.

Might be most professional reviewers are not die-hard X-fans so they are less likely to notice differences (“mistakes”) in characterization and such.
