CBR: THE BEGINNING: Cornell & Lowe on Dark X-Men
CBR just released an interview with editor Nick Lowe and Paul Cornell which also includes the Dark X-Men: The Beginning #1 preview within it. Emma Frost is mentioned a few times:
“It’s Namor in a kind of Frost/Nixon way, just an 11-page conversation/battle of wills between the two of them that’s actually called ‘Namor/Norman,’” Cornell. “Then a Namor and Emma story that explores their relationship and has a look inside Namor’s mind.”
It was the characters involved and the chance to writer for an anthology that made “Dark X-Men: The Beginning” such a compelling assignment for Paul Cornell. “I’ve always loved Emma Frost, who really ought to have honorary British citizenship. Then she could become a dame!” the writer told said. “And who could turn down the chance to write for Namor? That really puts one in a long line of quality, going right back to the start of the modern superhero era. And yeah, shorter stories were an interesting idea. Besides, I’ve been dying to write for something that actually had the title ‘X-Men.’”

I’ve had some love for Paul Cornell ever since I read his interview about how his favorite couple is Scott and Emma. Even enjoyed the idea of having her being a mother. I was sorry to hear that Cornell’s own series, “Captain Britain”, was being canceled. You have to admire his love for Emma. I wish he had been given the whole book in place of Fraction. Though I am speaking this without knowing what Fraction has in mind just yet.
Quite frankly, I could quite easily turn down writing for Namor. I despise those self important royal types. Not to mention that he’s now in tongue terms with his own cousin. Who knew Atlantis was the West Virginia of the season?
