Dark X-Men and War
IGN interviewed Matt Fraction about the Dark X-Men heading to war and the events of Utopia. Emma Frost is mentioned a few times.
IGN Comics: Looking online, one of the big questions I’m seeing regarding Utopia so far is why Cyclops isn’t more upset with seeing Emma publicly side with Osborn. Why would you say he still trusts her right now?
Fraction: I wouldn’t say that he’s not upset, and I wouldn’t say that he trusts her, but there’s a time and a place. Look what happened to Hellion and his group. Scott got played out of position for a round and has to keep his eye on the whole board and the entire game and the big picture as well as the small. As frustrating as it might be to see him sitting out the round, just imagine how frustrated he is. It’s a long range strategy. You don’t go throwing yourself away, which at this point he would be. Like I said, look at what happened to Hellion. If he went rampaging out into the middle of the action, people would be arrested immediately. And that’s a losing proposition. It’s a big fight, and patience is a virtue.
IGN Comics: Why didn’t Osborn just attempt to bring the real Xavier in as he did with Emma and just try to hide the darker aspects of the Dark X-Men project from him?
Fraction: Do you read X-Men Legacy?
IGN Comics: Yes.
Fraction: He did.
IGN Comics: I’ve been wondering what exactly happened in that encounter. I assume there’s a story to be told about what happens between Osborn approaching Xavier and having Mystique take his place?
Fraction: I think the story is probably that he says, “No”. I don’t know if that’s going to be dealt with explicitly in the Dark X-Men mini or what exactly. We can connect the dots pretty easily, though. That story might be told some other time. But it makes sense that Xavier would say no to a lunatic like Osborn.
IGN Comics: Based on the events of the last issue, Emma is aware that Beast and the real Xavier are being held prisoner. How does that affect her relationship with Osborn now? Is she still going to try to work with him?
Fraction: It’s a complication. Is it possible to keep working for him? What does Emma want out of all this?

Personally, I don’t see how Scott could of been so confident to arrive at Osborn’s base, all alone; and demand Osborn’s surrender. Unless he has someone on the inside, ready to strike when the time comes.
Fraction almost confirms this with the way he went on about how foolish Hellion was to rush into attacking. Following those rules. Scott was foolish for rushing in there alone. That is unless Scott had already set things in motion, and there is nothing that Osborn can do to stop it.
There is also the fact that at SDCC everyone was so hush about Utopia and Emma. That speaks to a change in the status quo. Meaning, if Emma looks as if she’s on the bad guys side. Soon she will make a sudden switch. Otherwise, why be so protective of the events? Sometimes the things people don’t say can be very telling.
Hey foxxfire, didn’t know you were on this site too! I think maybe Scott and Emma are backing each other up to some degree.
Otherwise, scott knows Norman wouldn’t try to kill him for risk of losing emma, who I think has leverage on Osborn. Geuss we’ll have to wait and see.
