The details behind ‘Astonishing X-Men’ #43

Emma Frost owes a debt to Danger after she promised to trade Professor Xavier in exchange for help on the Breakworld (see Astonishing X-Men #24). Danger came to peace with Xavier, though, so a new deal must be made.

James Asmus talked to Newsarama about the details behind Astonishing X-Men #43, which is out now!

With her original motive off the table, Danger asks Emma for help in tracking down another piece of artificial intelligence that she believes is being trapped against its will, similar to her former situation. Asmus describes the issue as a “buddy cop-type story” with “mismatched and yet perfectly paired partners for a specific mission.”

“That’s essentially the most evocative cause that she could be defending, sentient machinery rights,” Asmus says. “Which is an issue that politically just isn’t getting the attention that it should.”

This quest leads the pair to Secret Avengers headquarters — where they encounter Beast, a member of that team, one of Professor X’s five original pupils, and also part of Whedon and Cassaday’s main Astonishing X-Men cast.

Too bad this issue was not released digitally as some other X-comics this week. I guess Astonishing begins with that from issue #44 instead.

In a fight I’d want to pair Emma with Danger. The latter can just release some sort of machine pulse thing to take down the mechanical telepathy jammers/anti-telepathy implants and step back while Emma swoops in for the kill. An EMP Magneto or pillow talk from Cypher could work as well.
