Emma Frost

Emma Frost is a telepathic mutant with a secondary ability to transform into diamond. She first appeared as the White Queen of the Hellfire Club in Uncanny X-Men #129 (1980) during the Dark Phoenix Saga. She was headmistress of the Massachusetts Academy - a prestigious preparatory academy - and CEO of Frost International, an electronics and transportation company.

After the death of her youth mutant group, the Hellions, she joined Professor Xavier's side, despite their clashes, and led teen mutants with Banshee called Generation X. The group disbanded after Adrienne Frost, Emma's older sister, planted bombs in the school and killed Synch. But Emma avenged his death and killed her own sister with a gun. She then moved to Genosha, an island haven for mutants, but Cassandra Nova manipulated Sentinels into destroying the island. Emma was one of the few survivors and developed a secondary mutation in the process - the ability to turn her skin into a flexible, organic diamond. The X-Men found her alive, and she accepted their offer to join the X-Men.

She was a regular X-Men member and taught their students, most notably the Stepford Cuckoos who later turned out to be clones of her. She developed an odd psychic affair with their leader Cyclops, who was having marital problems with Jean Grey. Emma fell in love with him during this time, and after the death of Jean Grey, they began a relationship with each other.

Cyclops and Emma Frost assumed leadership responsibilities even though Xorn partially destroyed the X-Men's morale. They opened a new school, where Emma served as headmistress and he as headmaster. Some members distrusted Emma due to her villainous past, which haunted her when her mental projections of the Hellfire Club and Cassandra Nova attacked the X-Men. Cyclops recognized her fears of becoming evil again, though, so he stopped her from almost going insane.

As a leading member of the X-Men, Emma Frost made key decisions during events such as House of M, Civil War and Dark Reign. But anti-mutant sentiments were still a problem, so Cyclops moved the X-Men to an island near San Francisco. Emma assumed headmistress position, but the new team was more focused on protecting mutantkind - even if that meant putting children on the frontlines. The X-Men split in regards to this issue. Wolverine took some X-Men back to New York, while the other X-Men stayed with Cyclops in San Francisco. Emma supported Cyclops, even though she admitted she would rather be teaching. But Emma trusted him, so she sacrificed some of her finances to continue supporting the X-Men on Utopia. She is still a leading member and has become increasingly popular in the last several years.
